A bit about how it all began…..

In October 2012, Matt decided that after 10 years working for someone else, the time was right to start his own business and Sawdust Timber Furniture was born.
Before any furniture could be made, Matt needed a new, functional space to work in.

Plans were drawn up and approved.
The old tin garage was demolished to make way for new foundations.

Before long, Matt had the workshop at frame stage and completed the entire project in just eight weeks.

Machinery was moved in and timber was delivered.  Sawdust Timber Furniture was open for business!

What we have been up to since opening

Matt has been busy making a variety of custom pieces including chests of drawers, dining tables, wardrobes, entertainment units, bedside tables and coffee tables, to name a few. Matt enjoys designing and creating pieces to suit his clients’ needs, and is more than happy to come to your home or business to talk about your project.

All Sawdust Timber Furniture is crafted to the highest degree of quality using sustainable timbers. You will appreciate the fine craftsmanship now, and for many years to come.

Workshop

Matt has been busy working on lots of projects including custom made vanity units for a client’s bathroom. They had no storage so were thrilled with the end result and as you can see, they match in perfectly with current bathroom style.

Matt completed a custom made African mahogany Bookcase and Entertainment unit which was stained to match clients current pieces.

Matt completed a custom made side board out of Tasmanian Oak.

Road Trip
Sometimes it is difficult to source the best timbers locally. So Sawdust Timber Furniture hit the road in search of some Murray Red Gum.

First we travelled Northern Victoria 4 hours from Melbourne in search of a Red Gum Burl.

There were plenty of burls to choose from but we needed one that was oval shaped with lots of character as will be used as a solid coffee table.

We picked an amazing burl out of mix. It was the perfect shape and was solid. It weighed in at 130kg ! The markings on it were amazing.

We then headed north east in search of some Red Gum.
We were not disappointed as Matt found this amazing red gum stab which was perfect for a buffet he is making for a client.

After Matt selected some more timber, we loaded the trailer we headed home.
It was a great adventure and well worth the trip especially being able to choose the best timber and knowing where they came from.
